Sneakers makes you look cool! Kids, teens and adults walked around with them in streets and other places. They are so common that they can be seen around in the neighbourhoods! They also come in different colours to match sorts of different clothes.

A circle of sneakers, above

Well, I bought so many of them that I lost count of them! Buy them from islandwide shoe shops including All Star Converse and Bata with estimated prices from $15 to $60.

The Singapore Flyer

Singapore's pride and glory is standing at the height of 165m. It is higher than the London Eye and now it is the highest in the world now. A round of applause please!

At the height of 165m, you can enjoy a paranomic view of Singapore's skyline, a glimpse of Bintan and Johor too!

It was written on its website that it feature fixed capsules the size of a bus, the spectacular monument is capable of holding up to 784 passengers. Each capsule has a 28 person capacity and each revolution takes approximately 30 minutes. It held its groundbreaking ceremony in September 2005 and was launched in 2008.

Wonder where to go during the holidays? Simply book the tickets at its building at 30 Raffles Avenue, #01-07 or contact the officers there at 6333 3311. Remember to get there before its last admission at 10.15p.m. and its earliest at 8.30a.m.

For what Ms Fanny Lai, Group CEO of Wildlife Reserves, said on 11 February 2008, "I didn’t know Singapore is so green on top. I thought it would be a concrete jungle. But it is really green. This is something every tourist should see.", it would not be a trip to Singapore if you never hop on the Flyer, so just thrill your family and yourself, a fun!

@原声带 Keith Lim

Being a teen.

Being a teen is no easy task. adults say that we do not understand what they had gone through, but, in fact, what we are going through are even worse.

We have the pressure of exams. We have to have a good conduct in school or else be booked by an 'oh-so-mean' teacher. We must always come to school, and there is no such a thing called 'days off'.. I am not saying that parents have an easy job, but, please, cut us some slack....

We have to go through the same routine, day after day. Waking up at 5 in the morning sucks. (and I'm not even half done with what I have to say...)

Our bags are so heavy that made us resemble turtles. And what's more we have homework every single day! And that's not even counting other problems...

Friendships are really brittle and we have problems with them on a daily basis. Relationships are not encouraged but we still have them sometimes, and problems arise with them too.

In a whole, we have the worst 'jobs' in the world -being teenagers.

Meows~~

Recently, there are a lot of cats appearing near my house. There were two black kittens born last year and now a total of black kittens are there......

One kitten had been sleeping in a bicycle basket which I wonder how it got into that basket.

Another cat had been playing hide-and-seek with me, popping its head out from behind the wall several times.

One lazy kitten had been laying on the floor and when I greeted it, it would always meow back to me a lot of times.

I hope these wonderful stray cats will not disappear altogether like what happened once but continue to carry on the black cats' family line.

I'm a NOT scaredy cat.

Hi all, it is me again, Horizon. I ask all of you a question: Do you think H1N1 virus is dangerous? No, that is what my opinion, yours might not be the same as mine so I shan't force you. Isn't it just like another common flu? With vaccines and care, it will heal very fast but I also think that overreacting is playing safe? H1N1 is a mixture of flu from pigs, birds and humans so the society has used to it and it can be controlled.

Singapore is still safe as compared to Japan's 280+ cases, we had only 4, Singapore's SAFE!

HOLIDAY HAVOC

I know this is sort of like my last report. But I dont really care.

THE JUNE HOLIDAYS IS HERE!! CELEBRATE!!!!

Shop, play, relax, chill, and play some more!

A list of places to go for the HOLIDAYS!!

1. Jurong Point. Not only this is modern and a real hotspot for teenagers, it is located near Boon Lay MRT station and a bus interchange, and has tons of shops, fast food restaurants, a cinema and an arcade! Also, it has two parts, JP1 and the new, hip JP2!!

2. Vivo City. This is an amazing place to shop til you guys DROP! It is near Harbourfront MRT station, and within 10 minutes you could be having one hell of a good time! With a Burger King for those fast food fanatics, a million stores for those shopping queens-and-kings, and a playground for the young at heart, it's the perfect place for all ages!

3. West Mall. This is an awesome place to have fun and spend your savings! With shops and cinemas, it's great for a get-together with friends! Plus, it's located nearby!

4. Kallang Entertainment Center. This place has lots of amazing things to do! Bowling, ice-skating, an arcade, a cinema, and even a karaoke box! So, wanna have fun? Leisure Park Kallang is the place to be!

5. IMM. This fantastic place is only 5 minutes away from Jurong East MRT station. There is also a free shuttle bus service! With Mos Burger, McDonald's, and 7-Eleven outlets JUST ON THE FIRST FLOOR, this is amazing to get a bite to eat with friends. Basically, this is great place to enjoy a shopping-and-eating spree with your friends.

Also, be cool. Being cool and IN has nothing to do with smoking or getting involved with drugs. However, go to the beach with a cute outfit and sunglasses, and you might get a surprise at exactly what 'cool' is.

And if you failed your exams, don't panic. Remember, live life, cos' life goes on.

The Esplanade-Theatres on the Bay is one of the world's busiest arts centres. Officially opened on 12 October 2002, this architectural icon with its distinctive twin shells, is sited within Singapore's civic district just by Marina Bay at the mouth of the Singapore River.

The Esplanade aims to be a performing arts centre for everyone, and its programmes cater to its diverse audiences. Its programme line-up spans all genres, from encompass music, dance, theatre to visual arts, with a special emphasis on the Asian culture.

The Esplanade houses world-class performance spaces, supported by a comprehensive range of professional support facilities and services. Its two main venues are the 1600 seat Concert Hall, with acoustics by Russell Johnson of ARTEC Consultants, and the 2000 seat theatre, an adaptation of traditional European opera houses in horseshoe form.

In the past year, the Esplanade has welcomed over seven million visitors and presented more than 1,800 performances.

The idea of a performing arts center was first floated some 20 years ago. In the 80's, the idea picked up momentum and in 1989, the Advisory Council on Culture and the Arts, chaired by the then Deputy Prime Minister Ong Teng Cheong recommended that an arts center be built for Singapore. Work began in the 90's and a steering committee was formed to plan the project.

This makes the Esplanade the perfect choice for large and small-scale works in the performing arts and is an ideal venue for functions. With range of spaces, capable of handling events for 10 to 2,000 people, the Esplanade meets every need, whether it is an arts performance or a high-powered executive meeting.

As the premier arts centre of Singapore, there is always something interesting and exciting happening under the prickly shells. Come down to the centre and join the iTour for a real Esplanade Experience! For more details on the iTour, please follow this link: www.esplanade.com/about_the_centre/index.jsp

But, so you may ask, how do I get to the Esplanade? Well, the Esplanade is easily accesible via bus as the nearest bus stop is located along Raffles Avenue, outside the Esplanade Mall entrance. How convenient!

The Esplanade is also just a 10-minute walk from the City Hall MRT through an underpass which also links four shopping centres - Raffles City, Marina Square, Suntec City and the Millenia Walk.

Or, if you are not comfortable travelling by the crowded modes of public transport, a taxi could be another method of getting there, as a taxi stand is located at the Esplanade Mall entrance along Raffles Avenue.

Alex Sung (Adrian Pang) is blind and on a quest for revenge.

Seven years ago, Alex Sung’s wife was killed and he lost his sight. His investigations lead him to prominent businessman and philanthropist Kong Wah (Patrick Teoh) and his family, wife Suzanne (Aileen Tan), son (Julian Hee) and stepdaughter (Celest Chong). Alex infiltrates the family, uncovering the skeletons in the closet of the Kong family.

Nothing and nobody are what they seem, including Alex himself.

Throughout the series, Alex’s resolve for revenge is constantly tested as he develops a bond with the Kongs and a deep attraction to the one woman who stands in the way of his carefully-constructed plans.

The series explores the idea of good versus evil, in particular Alex’s struggle between good and evil. Does taking revenge, extracting justice from someone evil turn the good guy bad? Do the ends justify the means?

Well-paced with nail-biting cliffhangers and revelations of secrets, lies and ulterior motives, Red Thread is, at its core, a heartrending tale of love, forgiveness and hope.

Singlish

It is argued that we, Singaporeans, should not speak broken English a.k.a. Singlish.

Some think that by speaking Singlish, we are ruining our reputations.

While others think it is our culture, it should not be encouraged but should be accepted.

I think that both sides have a point but I support the latter more than the former.

The Western regions have cultures of eating cheese and drinking wine.

They have never given those cultures up.

So, why should we, the people living in the Eastern regions give up our cultures.

Cultures are what make us unique, what defines us as individuals, what makes us whom we are.

They are important as they are our identities.

And as Singaporeans, one part of our culture is speaking Singlish.

We use it everyday.

During text messaging, when talking to friends even when we are work!

So, as I said earlier, we should not encourage people to speak Singlish, but we should accept it, for it is who we are.

Watch Movie

Yesterday the 15 May, was the last day of exam and I went to WestMall with my friends, K, X, C, E, T, L and A.

We took MRT there and I boxed and pinched L along the journey. Y and the other girls were on the other platform of the Dover MRT.

C and K were wearing black and they looked a bit like the "pie kias".

We reached the WestMall and L had no interset of that movie so he headed to IMM when we werem going to watch the "Angels and Demons".

It was a boring movie and I ate lots of popcorn and finished the whole tub while watching the movie.

A 'small" boy sat beside me and I was angry and annoyed by him as when something happened in the movie, he would keep asking his mother.

I even told him to shut his mouth up and so his mother stared at me.

I was indeed "pie seh" so I wore my hood on.

C and A went home after the movie and when K found himself being the only boy, he didn't want to stay and he went home.

The other girls went shopping with me. X, E and T were gossiping about another boy MM.

Our "Movie day" ended after eating the new type of burger at the Burger King and we all went home.

Tan Xiangchun is a traditional, Chinese-educated senior teacher who deeply feels unappreciated at work because of his poor command of the English language. The younger generation no longer sees the importance of their mother tongue and moral education. As such, they despise and disrespect him. Gradually, Xiangchun becomes disillusioned with education and upon facing some health issues, dejectedly leaves the teaching line.

Xiangchun's wife, Kang Qianzhen, used to compile textbooks with the Ministry of Education. She had left her high-paying job for more flexibility in juggling her children and career, and started a tuition centre in the heartlands, hoping to carve out a great career in the education industry. Not wanting to be a loafer, Xiangchun becomes a staff of her centre.

Xiangchun's younger brother, Tan Xiangfeng, is free-spirited and uninhibited by nature. A trend-setter, he's a freelance DJ, model and because of his travel articles, is a celebrity of sorts. Their father died young and Xiangchun had been shouldering the responsibility of caring for Xiangfeng.

@小燕子 Yoko

The season of giving. You guessed it... Christmas! It is also celebrated by many others from different religions. Christmas celebrations include various traditions such as the arrival of Santa Claus, Christmas trees and the exchange of gifts.

So who is this 'Santa Claus' I've been talking about? Well, I did a research on him and according to a myth, he is a merry old man with red and white clothes, with eight flying reindeer, which is later joined by Rudolph, the red nosed reindeer. The home of Santa Claus is located on or near the North Pole and he has the habit of filling socks or stockings with presents on the night of December 24th. Santa Claus is also said to possess the habit of entering houses through the chimney.

"But every myth has to origin from somewhere..." I thought while reading a web page. And indeed the myth did origin from somewhere else- 4th Century A.D. The basis for the Santa Claus is Bishop Nicholas of Smyrna (Izmir), in what is now Turkey. Nicholas lived in the 4th century A.D, as said earlier. He was very rich, generous, and loving towards children. Often he gave joy to poor children by throwing gifts in through their windows. The modern day image of Santa Claus has been very much evolved and has attained a commercial status. But nonetheless this image has still preserved the essence of the old cult.

The present day Santa Claus is variedly different from the one that originated. With changing time and culture, their has been an immense evolution of modern day Santa Claus.

Finally, what is Christmas without, PRESENTS! Christmas toys have charming qualities that are long-lasting and help children appreciate the special occasion of Christmas. Christmas toys combine fun and the opportunity for children to grow, learn and explore.

Introduction 简介

It has been a while since I first joined TPW and my job as a reporter has been pretty enjoyable so far. My boss is really, really nice and all of the other reporters are pleasant.
Since young, I had always wanted to be a reporter and realising that dream of mine has really been fulfilling. As I get assignments on a weekly basis, I have to learn to juggle my schoolwork with my job.
Just so you know, it is not all a bed of roses. There are times in which my boss gives me almost unbelievable deadlines that I still have to meet at all cost. (No offence though, boss...) But after completing your article, you get the feeling of accomplishment after your report is edited and out on the web, for all to see.
At times, it is hard. While at others, it is just plain fun. In all, I just want to tell all of you out there, if you want to be a reporter, join our crew. And harvest your own seeds.
